NEWARI

Best food & thing

What is a "Samay Baji" set?
The Samay Baji is the ultimate Newari platter, traditionally served during festivals. It includes beaten rice (Baji), marinated grilled buffalo or chicken meat (Choila), black soybeans, ginger, garlic, boiled eggs, and a lentil pancake (Bara). It’s a complete balanced meal of textures and flavors.
I’m new to Newari food; what should I order first?
We recommend starting with Chatamari (often called "Nepali Pizza"), a thin rice-flour crepe with various toppings, followed by Yomari—a steamed rice-flour dumpling with a sweet molten heart of molasses (Chaku) or milk solids (Khuwa).
Do you have vegetarian or vegan options?
Absolutely! Many Newari staples are naturally vegetarian. Try our Veg Bara (lentil patties), Alu Tama (bamboo shoot and potato soup), or a Vegetarian Samay Baji set.

What is the significance of the "Juju Dhau"
What is the significance of the "Juju Dhau" on your menu?
Known as the "King of Curds," Juju Dhau is a rich, creamy yogurt from Bhaktapur. It is traditionally served in clay bowls and is the perfect sweet, cooling finish to a spicy Newari meal.
Is the food very spicy?
Newari cuisine is famous for its bold use of spices like cumin, ginger, and chili. However, we can adjust the heat level for most dishes upon request. Just let your server know your preference!
